Miracles - Sometimes you see one, other times you need one and occasionally you are the miracle.
While hiking down a remote mountain trail in China, Matt and his friend Chris were discussing miracles. Chris mentioned that seeing a miracle might persuade him to believe in Jesus. A few moments later, Matt Honson would slip and fall down a small cliff, twenty feet, head first, fracturing his skull and breaking his neck. In the blink of an eye Matt needed a miracle, and Chris would see one.
Using Matt's cell phone Chris called Nora, Matt's wife, who was further down the mountain. Wrapping his shirt about his friends head, Chris was able to stop the bleeding. Nora and several local farmers spent two hours looking for her husband. Finally the men were located in the dark by the light of the open cell phone. "They made a stretcher out of a board and some rope," said Nora, "and somehow, I will never know how, they were able to carry him up that incline and out of the gorge so they could carry him up the trail. They placed him on a donkey and brought him out." That would be Matt's first miracle.
Matt is the son of Jeff Honson, a pastor out of our movement. When I heard about the accident, and the financial need that the Honson's would have, we joined others immediately and sent a gift. Our Benevolent Fund enables us to respond right away, where help is needed most. This gift, along with others, helped Matt to begin a journey that has cost in excess of $170,000.00 just to bring him home to Minnesota where he is taking the next steps in becoming whole again.
Doctors on both sides of the ocean have said that Matt should have died from his injuries. Although Matt has lost the sight in one eye, he has no brain damage and will fully recover from his other injuries.
This is just one of the many needs we can help meet during our ministry year because of friends like you who give to our Benevolent Fund.
