On September 30th, West Hills Church (formerly known as “Bethany Baptist Church”) celebrated 50 years of gospel ministry in West County, St. Louis. The morning began with a wonderful time of Celebration in Worship - including a medley of “songs from the decades," video testimonies from our people, missionaries, and a founding member who has been here all 50 years (June Nystrom, now 93!), and a sermon on “Remembering and Renewing” from Head Pastor Gary Brooks.
The fellowship continued with a party afterward, complete with a live band, carnival rides, bounce houses, a petting zoo, catered lunch, and everyone’s favorite: gourmet ice cream. All told, we had some 350 people join in the celebration, many of whom traveled as far as half the country just to attend.
Said Pastor Brooks: “Thousands of people’s lives have been touched by God through this church. For many, Bethany/West Hills proved to be a place of healing and restoration, a place to grow in their faith, a place to be loved and cared for. Like any family, there have been some heartaches and challenges along the way. But the overwhelming collection of memories brings a sense of joy and deep gratitude to God. And now, we are into the fourth generation of those who are blessed to call this their church home, and should the Lord tarry, there will be many more to come.”
