Eugene A. Frost, Sr., 99, peacefully entered his Lord’s presence on Tuesday, November 20, at 9:45 a.m.
For over 74 years, Hattie Marie Hibma Frost was his loving and supportive wife. He is survived by his wife Marie, and children Sharon (Joe) Ritchie, Linda (Steve) Easterling, Gene (Barb) Jr., Kay (Rand) York, and Mark (Norine). He leaves a legacy of loving care for 22 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Rev. Frost was born November 16, 1919, in Hebron, Nebraska, to Ernest and Alta Gooden Frost. He served during WWII as a Navy chaplain. He attended Wheaton College and was the president of the Men’s Glee Club. He met Marie his future wife the week after graduation.
Pastor Frost served several churches in the western suburbs. He was the founding pastor of West Chicago Bible Church (1948-1961) and Church of the Open Door (1967-1975). He also led the congregation at Westminster Presbyterian in Elgin (1961-1967), Cherry Hills Baptist Church in Springfield, IL (1975-1981), and Big Rock Baptist (1984-2011). He was a man who loved studying and teaching God’s Word and most importantly had an unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ.
Gene loved flying and farming. He would say, “You can take the boy out of the farm, but you can’t take the country out of the boy.” He had a keen fascination for aviation throughout the years, attending the Oshkosh Fly-In and completing training as an aerobatic pilot.
